Member of the Election Commission K Bala Singam has decided to shorten his term of office effective Jan 1.
EC chairman Azhar Azizan Harun said in a statement issued yesterday that this was being done in accordance with Article 114 of the Federal Constitution pertaining to its members.
Azhar said the letter seeking the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on the shortening of the term of office of Bala Singam as an EC member was sent to Istana Negara yesterday.
On Oct 18, the EC decided to shorten the services of its deputy chairman Othman Mahmood and four of the five members of the commission effective Jan 1.
The four EC members were Md Yusop Mansur, Abdul Aziz Khalidin, Sulaiman Narawi and Leo Chong Cheong. Bala Singam was the only remaining member then.
