Never again, says Mahathir, over temple relocation fracas.
Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has revealed that outsiders masterminded Monday’s riot at the Sri Maha Mariamman temple in Subang Jaya, Selangor.
He said that based on preliminary information available, the riot was not started by locals.
“This is not about Malays versus Indians. This problem was caused by people who came from elsewhere. It’s not local people.
“Outsiders were behind it,” he said last night
In a statement earlier on Tuesday (Nov 27), the prime minister had said the riot at the temple was criminal in nature and that its perpetrators would be dealt with severely according to the law.
“The criminals who tried to create disturbances and injured our security and rescue personnel, as well as damaged public property, will face stern action according to the law.
“And if there are puppet masters behind these incidents, they too will not escape from receiving appropriate punishment,” Dr Mahathir said.
On accusations that police were slow to act regarding the crisis, he said police did not act aggressively because they had to be extra careful in handling sensitive issues.
Dr Mahathir gave his assurance that there would not be a repeat of the fracas at the Sri Maha Mariamman temple in future, stating Putrajaya has ways to deal with the matter.
