An elderly man was killed after his motorcycle hit a pothole on Jalan Tengah heading to Jalan Syed Putra in Kuala Lumpur, causing him to fall.
Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Zulkefly Yahya said the victim was identified as Ho Yan Fee, 75, who died at the scene of the accident.
“Police received a report at 7.30am today. Initial investigations found the victim was from Jalan Connaught heading to the Mid Valley Megamall. He is believed to have hit a pothole at the location and fell,” he said in a statement today.
He said the victim’s body was sent to the Canselor Tuanku Muhriz Hospital for a post-mortem.
The case would be investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
The prevalence of potholes has been a subject of much discussion in the mass media of late, especially after Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Khairy Jamaluddin fell and injured himself after his bicycle hit a pothole in Banting, Selangor, on Dec 27.
The Public Works Department (JKR) later apologised to Khairy and said they would take prompt action to patch the pothole.
However, social media users had criticised the department for “practising double standards”, questioning whether they would act as quickly if it did not involve a VIP.
