Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad announced that English competency tests will be carried out for top civil servants.

“The English language is important and must be practised by high-level civil servants,” said Dr Mahathir at a press conference after a Cabinet meeting on Wednesday.
He added that it is essential for top civil servants to have a good command of the English language as they have meetings overseas with international figures.
Dr Mahathir also revealed that the Government will review co-curricular education from kindergarten to university level.
A task force consisting of non-government experts will be set up to look into the education system in international countries to find ways Malaysia can improve its education system.
