Ex-MAS CEO Ahmad Jauhari Survives Melawati Helicopter Collision Which Killed Two

Former Malaysia Airlines Bhd (MAS) group chief executive officer Datuk Ahmad Jauhari Yahya is one of the two survivors of a helicopter crash today, which killed two passengers.

Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Farouk Esha confirmed that he and another flyer by the name of Tan Chai Eian survived the incident, while two others; My Heli Club’s captain and chief flying instructor, Commander (Rtd) Mohamed Sabri Baharom, 56, and Mohamad Ifwan Rawi, 44, died in the crash.

Earlier today, the Fire and Rescue Department confirmed that two helicopters flying four passengers had collided.

Farouk confirmed that only one of the helicopters crashed in Melawati in the incident. The other helicopter landed successfully at the Taman Melawati Tamil school field.

The two in the helicopter that landed safely were Tan Chai Eian, 51, and Ahmad Jauhari Yahya, 66.

The female and male survivors were injured.

“The two helicopters were from the same company and were believed to be flying between Subang and Genting Sempah.

“Police investigations are focusing on the cause of death. The probe into the cause of the incident will be carried out by the Civil Aviation Department,” Farouk said.

He revealed that the two helicopter models involved were the Heli Cabri 9M-HCB and the Heli Cabri 9M-HCA.

Both Sabri and Irfan were in the blue helicopter that crashed, while Ahmad Jauhari and Tan were in a red helicopter that managed to make an emergency landing.

Pictures of the public trying to help the victims also made rounds on Twitter this morning.
