Former student activist Fahmi Zainol is going for the PKR youth wing’s top post in the party’s upcoming elections in May.

The 31-year-old Penang PKR Youth chief has picked Rawang assemblyman Chua Wei Keat as his running mate.

Current chief and Johor Baru MP Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir is not defending his position.

The former Universiti Malaya student leader also unveiled his full line-up today.

“This election is an election based on the unification, movement and determination of young people in PKR to gain support ahead of the 15th general election.

“We are confident and always strive to embrace all members in every branch throughout Malaysia,” he said during the press conference.

Among other prominent candidates on Fahmi’s list is Batu MP P Prabakaran who is vying for a seat on its executive council, while Melaka Youth chief Prasanth Kumar will contest for the vice-chief post.

Fahmi said he would focus on three main policies — gaining the support of young voters and first-time voters; raising the participation of youths and the party’s youth wing in the 15th general election, and strengthening PKR Youth.

Fahmi joined PKR in 2015 and is expected to face another student activist Adam Adli, who joined the party last year.

Adam, however, has yet to confirm his tilt for the post and had previously said he will announce his decision on the eve of the contest.

“We’ve been together fighting a lot of student-related issues before. So, if he contests, this is more of a sibling contest,” he said of the expected contest.
