The Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah has consented to reappoint Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu as Perak Menteri Besar.

Comptroller of the Perak Royal Household, Col (Rtd) Datuk Abd Rahim Mohamad Nor announced this in a statement today.

The swearing-in ceremony for the 13th Perak Menteri Besar will take place before Sultan Nazrin at Istana Iskandariah in Kuala Kangsar this afternoon.

Abd Rahim said Sultan Nazrin consented to reappoint Ahmad Faizal as the 13th Perak Menteri Besar after the Chenderiang state assemblyman obtained the confidence of the majority of the state assemblymen and it is in accordance with Article XVI, Clause 2 (a) of the Perak Darul Ridzuan State Constitution.

On Tuesday, Ahmad Faizal resigned as the 12th Perak Menteri Besar after the collapse of Perak Pakatan Harapan (PH), which was triggered by the withdrawal of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) from the coalition.

A day earlier, Ahmad Faizal announced that the Perak Perikatan Nasional (PN) comprising UMNO, PAS and Bersatu had obtained support of 32 out of 59 assemblymen to form the new state government.

On the same day, four assemblymen left their respective parties, namely, Kuala Kurau assemblyman Datuk Abdul Yunus Jamahri who quit PKR to join Bersatu, while Paul Yong Choo Kiong (Tronoh) and A Sivasubramaniam (Buntong) both left DAP and Hasnul Zulkarnain (Titi Serong) quit Amanah.

Yong, Sivasubramaniam and Hasnul, however, expressed their support for the Perak Perikatan Nasional which would take over the state government from PH in line with the new political alignment in the state.

Currently the Perak state assembly comprises 25 representatives from the Barisan Nasional (UMNO), followed by DAP (16); Amanah (5); Bersatu (4); PKR (3), PAS (3) and Independent (3).
