FRU personnel killed in Teluk Intan crash buried with honours

The nine Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) members who lost their lives in the Teluk Intan crash on Tuesday (13 May) were laid to rest with full honours in accordance with Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) ceremonial protocols.

The final tribute took place at the FRU Unit 5 base in Sungai Senam at 3.46am on Wednesday (14 May). The caskets, draped in the Jalur Gemilang, arrived from the Hilir Perak district police headquarters (IPD) at 3.13am, accompanied by a full police escort.

Funeral prayers for the seven Muslim personnel were led by Ustaz Azrul Zaimi Muhammad Ali at Surau Al-Mustakim. Earlier, their remains had been taken to the Hilir Perak IPD surau for prayers after being released from the Teluk Intan Hospital Forensic Department at 12.33am, following post-mortem examinations.

Over 500 people, including family members and fellow police officers, gathered to pay their final respects. Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay and Perak police chief Comm Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin were also in attendance.

Following the ceremony, the remains were sent to the respective hometowns of the deceased for burial.

The fatal accident occurred at 8.50am on Tuesday when the FRU vehicle, returning to Ipoh after completing a duty in Teluk Intan, was struck by a gravel-laden lorry. Eight officers died at the scene, while the ninth passed away at Teluk Intan Hospital.
