The lawyer for Datin Seri Pamela Ling’s family has raised concerns over the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) inaction after Ling failed to appear at its headquarters on 9 April.

In a statement today, Sangeet Kaur Deo questioned whether the MACC had issued a warrant of arrest following Ling’s absence, which she said constituted a clear breach of her MACC bail conditions.

“Under normal circumstances, such a breach would prompt immediate enforcement, including the issuance of a warrant of arrest,” she said.

“Was any such warrant ever sought or issued in her case? If not, why not?”

Sangeet pointed out that the MACC has express powers under its own Act to ensure the attendance of individuals who fail to comply with instructions.

“Did the MACC invoke these provisions? The commission never hesitated to obtain warrants for her arrest in the past.

“Did it act with similar vigour this time?” she asked.

“If it did not, was the MACC indifferent to her sudden disappearance—or worse, not surprised by it?”

She also questioned why the MACC had repeatedly summoned Ling to provide statements, noting that Ling had attended the commission on at least nine separate occasions.

“Was she a witness or a suspect?” Sangeet asked.

“So far, all statements from the MACC make it clear that no significant action has been taken regarding her sudden disappearance.”
