The Yang di-Pertuan Agong told Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) to support a unity government, which could spell a way out of the current impasse, Fadillah Yusof said.
However, the Petra Jaya lawmaker said the GPS delegates who met Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah could not give a definitive answer to the monarch.
“His Majesty has given his advice and the four of us who had the audience replied that we could not decide whether we agree or not because the decision lies with GPS’ top leadership.
“At the same time, we (GPS) will obey whatever decision made by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong,” he was quoted as saying by The Borneo Post today.
The palace summoned GPS representatives to the Istana Negara for an audience this morning.
The four GPS lawmakers who met the king were: Fadillah, Kapit MP Alexander Nanta Linggi, Serian MP Richard Riot and Kanowit MP Aaron Ago Dagang.
A fifth MP – from the Progressive Democratic Party – could not make the meeting at Istana Negara.
In Saturday’s general election, GPS snared 23 seats of the 31 it had contested in the state.
It is being courted by Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Perikatan Nasional (PN) to form a federal government.
