Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) is the latest coalition to join the Pakatan Harapan-led unity government, announced Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
At a press conference, he said he now has the support of a two-thirds majority in the Dewan Rakyat.
“Sabah Chief Minister Hajiji Noor said GRS would officially join the unity government. This shows that we have the strength of two-thirds majority MPs,” Anwar added.
With this, he said the new government can focus on its work to strengthen the country’s economy.
Anwar, who clocked in as prime minister today, said his priority is to tackle rising prices and address cost-of-living issues.
“I have sought a detailed discussion on immediate steps to be taken to reduce this pressure (on the people) and I will hold an urgent meeting with the relevant departments and agencies soon.
“I’m asking to meet this weekend or by Monday at the latest. I know it’s a public holiday, but if they don’t mind, they can postpone the off-day,” he added.
GRS is made up of Sabah Bersatu, Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (Star), Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS), Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) and United Sabah National Organisation (Usno).
The unity government comprises Pakatan Harapan and its ally Muda with 82 seats, followed by BN with 30 seats and GPS with 23 seats.
The Tambun MP-elect also said his government included Warisan, Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) and independent lawmakers.
Yesterday, Anwar said he left the door open to Perikatan Nasional, which has 73 parliamentary seats and GRS, which controls six seats. – Malaysiakini
