Lim Guan Eng wants Malacca Deputy Speaker Ghazale Muhamad to apologise for making what Lim describes as defamatory and racist statements about him in a Facebook posting.
The DAP secretary-general sought the apology in a letter of demand sent to Ghazale today.
Kota Melaka MP Khoo Poay Tiong said the dispute is over a Facebook post by Ghazale on August 11.
Khoo added that Ghazale, the Umno rep for Rim, alleged in his post that Lim had appointed a team of 30 special officers when he first became the finance minister.
He had also alleged that these officers were Chinese youths between the age of 20 and 30 years old, and were paid RM8,000 to RM15,000 a month.
Khoo said there were also racist statements in the post, while accusing Lim of selling off the country’s assets.
“Ghazalee’s statement is utterly false and slanderous. It is nothing but a typical attempt to paint Lim Guan Eng and DAP as the villain.
“Previously, Ghazalee has also spread false information and defamed Teo Nie Ching, accusing her of calling for citizenship to be approved for children from other countries in order to balance the number of Bumiputeras and non-Bumiputeras in the country,” said Khoo.
He added that Ghazalee issued an apology to Teo on July 29, 2020, after she initiated legal action.
“These show that Ghazalee is a serial liar and peddler of fake news.
“Such behaviour is unacceptable for a deputy speaker of a state assembly, who should be ethical, righteous, and unbiased in his conduct.
“Ghazalee should withdraw his false statement immediately and apologise,” said Khoo. – TMI
