The Bersatu Youth chief had lodged a police report yesterday against Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and the former finance minister over the tax exemption issue involving Albukhary Foundation.
Lim Guan Eng has accused Bersatu Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal of committing a criminal offence by lodging a “false police report” against him and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
Wan Fayhsal had lodged a police report yesterday against Lim and Anwar over the tax exemption issue involving Albukhary Foundation, urging the police to take action against the pair.
He alleged that Anwar had confused the Dewan Rakyat by supporting Lim.
Lim said Wan Fayhsal was wrong in attempting to bring the police into parliamentary proceedings.
“Clearly, he does not respect or understand the principle of the supremacy of Parliament in our Federal Constitution,” he said in a statement today.
“The police or any branch of government has no authority to intrude or investigate matters discussed in Parliament.
“Parliamentary matters can only be decided by Parliament. For an MP to do otherwise shows he is unqualified to be a member of the Dewan Rakyat.”
Wan Fayhsal had previously backed a claim by Perikatan Nasional chairman and Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin that Lim had cancelled the tax exemption given to the foundation while he was the finance minister, saying the former prime minister had not lied about the matter.
However, on March 21, Anwar denied that Lim had done so.
Lim said Anwar had spoken the truth when he said the finance ministry’s records showed that the Albukhary Foundation’s tax exemption status had not been revoked between May 2018 and February 2020, when Lim was finance minister.
“Wan Fayhsal should persuade Muhyiddin to show any letters of revocation by me to the Albukhary Foundation,” he said.
“If Muhyiddin fails to do so, then both Muhyiddin and Wan Fayhsal are making an empty claim that is baseless and false.”
Lim warned Wan Fayhsal to “think carefully before he swims in the same treacherous waters as Muhyiddin”. – FMT
