Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) today has confirmed Datuk Husam Musa has resigned from his position as vice-president of the Pakatan Harapan component party.

Amanah strategic communications chief Khalid Samad said Husam’s application to resign was approved during the party’s monthly committee meeting on Sept 6.

Khalid said Husam’s resignation was for the latter to focus on winning seats for Amanah in Kelantan, especially in the Kota Baru Parliament, which he leads.

“As abilities and capabilities are still needed at the national level, we have decided that Husam will act as advisor to three Amanah’s bureaus in preparation for the 15th General Election.

“These three bureaus are the Election Bureau, the Communications Bureau and the Strategy Bureau.

“A proposal paper on the new role is being prepared for his approval,” he said in a statement.

He said, any indication that Husam is resigning due to his dissatisfaction with the party’s president and leadership was baseless.

Khalid said Husam’s decision was solely to strengthen the position of Amanah in Kelantan, especially in Kota Baru.

Last week, Husam reportedly submitted his resignation to the party’s leadership.

He joined the party in August 2016.

Husam was the former vice-president of Pas, who was sacked from the Islamic party for criticising the party president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang over allegations of co-operation between Pas and Umno. – NSTS
