The husband of Syazlin Mansor – who withdrew as the lawyer for the family of late fireman Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim in an ongoing inquest into his death – has resigned as the press secretary to Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin.

“For everyone’s information, I sent my letter of resignation today and will be on leave for a month,” Ahmad Soffian Mohd Shariff told reporters in a WhatsApp message today.

This comes two weeks after his wife Syazlin withdrew as the watching brief lawyer for Zuraida’s ministry in the inquest into Adib’s death, on the instructions of Attorney-General Tommy Thomas who cited conflict of interest.

Syazlin was also representing Adib’s family and the Fire and Rescue Department.

Thomas had also mentioned Syazlin’s relation to Ahmad Soffian.

When contacted, Zuraida who is currently in Turkey said she had yet to be told of Ahmad Soffian’s resignation.

Syazlin had brought in a pathologist to scrutinise a report by Hospital Kuala Lumpur suggesting there were no injuries on Adib.

There has been intense speculation that Adib succumbed to injuries he sustained when he was allegedly attacked by a mob during skirmishes outside the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman temple in Subang Jaya on Nov 27.
