Inspector-general of Police Razarudin Husain has confirmed filing a suit against blogger Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris, or Papagomo for alleged defamation.
When contacted, Razarudin confirmed that he is filing the suit against Wan Azri, who through videos on YouTube and TikTok allegedly accused the IGP of being a lackey of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
“Yes, that is true,” Razarudin told Malaysiakini in a text message.
He declined further comments when asked about the reason for suing Wan Azri, who is also being investigated over a video allegedly defamatory to the police.
Separately, Sinar Harian quoted lawyer Raam Kumar, representing Razarudin, as saying that the notice of the lawsuit was filed on Dec 26 at the Kuala Lumpur High Court, and served to Wan Azri yesterday as the defendant.
“Therefore, the plaintiff seeks damages for verbal defamation, written defamation, general damages, aggravated or exemplary damages, and special damages.
“The plaintiff also demands an injunction to prevent all defendants, whether personally, through employees, or any other party, from making statements or remarks deemed defamatory, as well as from publishing or causing the republication of the defamatory statements,” he said.
Additionally, Raam said Razarudin is also demanding that Wan Azri retract the defamatory statements, and delete and destroy all videos, publications, messages, or materials constituting defamation by the defendant.
“The plaintiff further demands that the defendant issue an apology and retract the defamatory statements through all social media accounts, mass media, and online media, with the content of the apology to be agreed upon beforehand by the plaintiff,” he added. – Malaysiakini
