Authorities this morning raided the Selangor Mansion building in another operation to clamp down on illegal immigrants.

Enforcement sources said about 20 people were arrested in the operation which started at 10am.

They also implemented proper social distancing and health procedures in checking the details of those called up.

“They came door to door and checked everyone living in the building. Those without documents were asked to gather at one place.

“Then several people were asked to gather in front of the Maybank in Jalan Masjid India and after checks, they have been allowed to return to their homes by the authorities,” a Malaysian citizen who lived in the building told The Malaysian Insight.

It is learnt that the operation ended at 12 noon.

Media at the scene were barred from recording the operation and they were not allowed to approach authorities who conducted the raid.

However, several video clips taken by other residents are going viral on social media. They show some of those being checked by the authorities made to sit down by the roadside, but while maintaining a distance.

The Malaysian Insight has asked authorities to comment on the raid but has yet to receive any response.

Selangor Mansion is one of the buildings in the Masjid India area that is under an enhanced movement-control order (EMCO) and the majority of residents in the building are foreigners.

Last Friday, more than 500 undocumented migrants were arrested from the Menara City One residential building and the Masjid India area, prompting outcry from lawyers and human rights groups on the government’s reneging of its promise not to take action on migrants during the MCO so that they would come forward for Covid-19 testing. – May 3, 2020.
