Johor DAP chairman Liew Chin Tong today raised eyebrows at the Perling nomination Centre when he brought Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman as his proposer.
The duo arrived at 9.05am at the Dewan Jubli Intan Sultan Ibrahim Johor Baru.
When first asked about Syed Saddiq’s presence, Liew who was clad in a white shirt jokingly said the Muda president was also a candidate for Perling.
“Joking, joking. This (Syed Saddiq) is my proposer,” Liew said to reporters before entering the nomination hall.
Syed Saddiq who was wearing a green batik shirt then responded saying, “I’m here as the proposer and I’m a Perling boy.”
Liew who is representing Pakatan Harapan (PH) is expected to go against two other candidates for the Perling state seat.
They are Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate, MCA Pulai division women chief Tan Hiang Kee and Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate, Gerakan vice-president Khoo Siaw Lee.
Tan was the first to arrive at the nomination centre with her proposer and seconder at 8.45am.
This was then followed by Khoo who arrived at 8.49am, also with his proposer and seconder.
In the last general election, PH candidate Cheo Yee How won the seat with an overwhelming majority of 19,533, defeating BN candidate Wong You Fong and Muhammad Nazrin Ihsan from Pas. – NST
