Health Minister Adham Baba should just resign if he cannot keep the Covid-19 pandemic in check, said Lim Kit Siang.

The DAP veteran said Adham should not be giving excuses or play with words when talking about the state of the pandemic in Malaysia.

“Adham should stop his game of semantics and focus on checking the rise in daily increase of new Covid-19 cases and bring it down to double-digit figures or resign,” said the Iskandar Puteri MP in a statement today.

Adham had said yesterday that the fourth wave of Covid-19 pandemic in Malaysia was not possible unless zero domestic or local transmission cases had been recorded from the current third wave, before a sharp increase in cases the following day.

Lim rubbished Adham’s remarks, because they implied that a fourth wave of infection can only occur when the country has succeeded in zeroing cases in the third wave.

“Can Adham state how many days in the past year had a zero daily increase of new Covid-19 cases?”

He said the third wave does not look like slowing down as daily cases keep rising.

Yesterday’s report of 2,331 new Covid-19 cases was the third day in a row that daily infections were back above the 2,000 mark.

“For more than a year of the Covid-19 pandemic, Malaysia is the only country in the world that had operated without an effective and credible minister of health,” he said, adding that Adham had been guilty of many other gaffes.

“Now he has excelled himself, by saying that Malaysia will not face a fourth wave of the Covid-19 pandemic unless the third wave in Malaysia recorded zero cases in daily increase first.

“How smart the Health Minister is in fighting the fourth wave, by saying that it will not happen because the third wave is still here, although it can be worse than previously.” – TMI
