Klang Man Arrested for Allegedly Beating Elderly Mother-in-Law to Death

A 43-year-old prawn mee seller in Pandamaran, Klang, has been nabbed following a report lodged by his wife over the death of her stepmother.

  • The stepdaughter did not dare to tell the rest of her family as her husband had threatened to kill her.
  • Suspect said to be quick-tempered, thought the victim was urging his wife to divorce him
  • Wife lodged a report after stepmother died of injuries  

The 70-year-old victim is believed to have been beaten by the man several times since May.

When her stepdaughter found the injuries on the elderly woman getting worse, she brought her to Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah in Klang on Oct 28. Her stepmother never regained consciousness and succumbed to her injuries at 9.40am on Nov 3.

A post-mortem showed that the cause of death was a head injury due to blunt force trauma.

The beatings the deceased was believed to have suffered at the hands of her son-in-law allegedly occurred at their house in Teluk Pulai in Klang from May to October this year.

Klang Selatan district police chief Assistant Commissioner Shamsul Amar Ramli said the stepdaughter was initially afraid to disclose the matter to the rest of her family, as her husband had threatened to kill her.

According to Shamsul, the suspect is said to be quick-tempered, and he was under the impression that his mother-in-law was urging his wife to divorce him.

 The man was detained in Klang on Friday night and a seven-day remand against him was obtained from the court on Saturday.

 The suspect will be investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
