Umno veteran Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, also known as Ku Li, has called on party leaders to sever ties and leave the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government.
Ku Li, who is also Gua Musang MP, said the Umno supreme council must hold a meeting and amend their decision to be with the PN government until the dissolution of Parliament.
“Wrong step? Sever ties and leave the PN government now.
“Stop playing ‘wayang kulit’. No benefit, no effect.
“My sincere advice to all Umno members who are in the government and government-linked companies (GLCs), (Tan Sri) Muhyiddin (Yassin) has threatened to throw us away.
“Wait no more and stop immediately. Care for your dignity and Umno’s dignity,” he said in a statement yesterday.
It was reported that Umno had sent a letter to Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who is Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia’s president to end their political cooperation in the 15th General Election.
Meanwhile, in another statement earlier today, Tengku Razaleigh said it is Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah’s constitutional duty to summon the Parliament within six months since its last sitting.
“It is important to be reminded that the Constitution of Malaysia is binding on all irrespective of status.
“(And) the King and the prime minister (Muhyiddin) are bound by their constitutional oaths to uphold the Constitution.
“The Constitution demands that the King should not allow any lapses in calling of the Parliament beyond six months.”
He said the Rule of Law and the accountability in the enforcement of the Constitution cannot be compromised by any form of extra-constitutional consideration.
“Parliament is the heart of the Constitution, and without a functioning Parliament, the Constitution cannot work.” – NST
