The family of an LRT crash victim have sent a legal notice to Prasarana, demanding that the rail operator pay RM1.8 million in damages for injuries he suffered.
Wong Chee Foong sought the RM1.8 million for medical expenses, physical damage, mental and emotional stress, trauma, loss of income, special and general damages and for the negligence caused, lawyer Jazzmine Khoo said.
She said Wong, who works as a chef in a hotel, is warded at Hospital Kuala Lumpur but has yet to regain consciousness.
“He sustained serious head, face and spinal injuries and is currently undergoing multiple surgeries and treatment. He is still in the ICU and has not regained consciousness.
“The Wong family had also referred to the press statement by Prasarana whereby it was mentioned that the company will compensate RM1,000 for each victim and take care of the medical expenses and loss of income.
“Disappointingly, till today, there is no proper response or approach by Prasarana in liaising with the victim’s family. Nevertheless, the family also expressed that the said RM1,000 is not a justified amount of compensation for the victim as the damage suffered by the victim is greater,” she added.
Two hundred and thirteen passengers were hurt in the incident last Monday, when a train without any passengers collided with another train carrying the 213 in the tunnel between the Kampung Baru and KLCC LRT stations. – FMT
