The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has launched a probe to verify the involvement of politicians in online gambling activities.

The graftbusters, in a statement today, said the investigation was based on the information received and shared between the commission and police.
“The MACC will not compromise with any quarters using corruption as well as abuse of power which resulted in the gambling issue taking place in the country,” the statement said.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani was quoted as saying that the police had received information regarding the matter and that investigations were underway.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail revealed in the Dewan Rakyat on June 15 that there was an element of political patronage in online gambling activities in this country.
Saifuddin said such element was the biggest obstacle for the ministry, police and the government, as a whole, in their efforts to address the issue.
Yesterday, Saifuddin reiterated the claims, pointing out that the politicians were on police’s radar.
“They (police) know that they will be grilled with a lot of questions first from me before I am questioned by members of parliament in the Dewan Rakyat.
“The police do have information on it. It is on their radar. Precise information enables us to take targeted action,” he was quoted as saying. – NST
