Malaysians are up in arms over the Kepala Batas MP’s statement that the government practised double standards by allowing the “deviant” Blackpink concert to go on.
Commenting on a post on The Star’s Facebook page, Azmi Othman said that it was an “embarrassing statement” from Dr Mastura Muhammad.
Similarly, Ana Alibaba said Dr Mastura should learn how to live in a multicultural society, adding; “the world doesn’t revolve around you”.
Kepala Batas MP Dr Mastura Muhammad said the K-Pop girl group’s concert poses a bigger threat than religious activities, comparing it with religious ceramah that were cancelled in Selangor with authorities not giving permits and strict regulations being imposed.
Meanwhile, Henry Tong echoed the sentiment of others on social media, saying that Dr Mastura is speaking for herself.
“It is your personal view and you are entitled to it. Just do not do carpet bombing and prevent others from attending their concerts,” said Tong.
Blackpink performed in predominantly-Muslim countries and their governments and citizens did not seem to have any issue with it,” he added.
Similarly, Magima Raj Pragasam said it was none of the MP’s business to impose her “morality” on Malaysians who don’t subscribe to the same beliefs.
“Our own beliefs take care of that for us,” he said.
This was a view shared by Nipel Nyowib, who said that such concerts are not for Dr Mastura.
“Oh please! Get over it. Let the kids enjoy themselves,” said another user, Joe Hal.
Several others such as Thomas Tei said that there are more important matters that should be highlighted by members of the Dewan Rakyat. – The Star
