A 57-year-old man was beaten up by other motorists after his U-turn manoeuvre at KM13 of Jalan Sungai Petani-Kuala Ketil led to the death of a motorcyclist.

Kuala Muda district police chief Asst Comm Adzli Abu Shah said the incident involved vehicles heading from Sungai Petani to Kuala Ketil.

He said the accident occurred after the driver of the car made a U-turn heading towards Sungai Petani.

“As the car was making a U-turn, an 18-year-old motorcyclist tried to avoid the car but instead, slammed into its rear.

“Two more motorcycles then rammed into the right side of the car. This was followed by another car which also slammed the right side of the car as well as into the first motorcyclist,” he said in a statement.

The 18-year-old motorcyclist died after sustaining severe head and chest injuries.

The two other motorcyclists and the driver of the other car only had minor injuries.

The death of the biker sparked anger among other motorists, who proceeded to beat up the driver who made the U-turn.

The 57-year-old man was hit by motorcycle helmets and sustained head injuries.

The driver was later taken to the Padang police station before being treated at a private hospital here.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act. Investigations are still ongoing. – NST
