A man and his wife were charged in the Sessions Court here today with cheating a businessman of more than RM900,000 in a handphone purchase deal last year.

However, Teo Kok Huat, 43, and wife, Goh Shwu Koon, 42, both owners of First Comm Telecommunication, pleaded not guilty to the charge before judge Syed Faisal Syed Amir.
The couple was alleged to have cheated businessman Tay Boon Heng, 36, by deceiving him into believing that they were involved in selling handphones of various brands and dishonestly inducing Tay to bank-in RM923,000 into First Comm Telecommunication.
They were alleged to have committed the offence at Sunway SPK Damansara Kepong, Sentul here between July 21 and Aug 30, 2016.
The charge, under Section 420 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same law, provides an imprisonment for up to 10 years and whipping and fine, if found guilty.
The couple, who has three children, was allowed bail of RM30,000 in one surety each and also ordered to surrender their passport to the court.
The court set Oct 13 for mention.
Deputy public prosecutor S. Malini Anne prosecuted, while lawyer Shafihani Md Ali represented the couple.
