Maybank’s Hasnita New Mara Chief

The Prime Minister’s Office has appointed Dr Hasnita Hashim as the chairman of Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara), along with six new board members for the agency.

It said in a statement Wednesday (Sept 26) that Dr Hasnita is a PhD holder in nuclear physics from Oxford University and a trained actuary. She is presently the chair of Maybank Asset management Group and a board member of Maybank Banking Bhd.

She has 26 years of experience in financial management and was at one time the chief executive officer at Guidance Investments, the investment arm of Guidance Financial Group.

Dr Hasnita started her career at Coopers & Lybrand Deloitte in London as an actuary. She is a member of the Institute of Actuaries.

The six new board members are Prof Tan Seri Dzulkifli Abdul Razak, Dr Nungsari Ahmad Radhi, Datuk Dr Ameer Ali Mydin, Datuk Syed Tamim Ansari Syed Mohamed, Tengku Tan Seri Mahaleel Tengku Ariff and Zakri Khir.

All the new appointments will take effect on Oct 1.

The former chairman of Mara was Umno’s Datuk Awang Adek Hussin.
