Concerns about high material costs and kiosks are underutilised.

MCA Youth, led by deputy chief Mike Chong, along with Beliawanis members, lodged a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in Putrajaya, urging an investigation into alleged improprieties in the Housing and Local Government Ministry’s MyKiosk project.

A video of Chong addressing reporters outside MACC headquarters was posted on MCA’s official Facebook page.

Chong stated the project was meant to support traders but raised concerns about high material costs compared to market rates and underutilisation of kiosks, saying: “Reports and feedback indicate the kiosks are underutilised despite being built.”

A detailed report was submitted by Pahang MCA Youth chief Wong Siew Mun and MCA Beliawanis chief Ivone Low.

On 20 May, Minister Nga Kor Ming welcomed MACC scrutiny, inviting them to “have tea” at his ministry to address public backlash over MyKiosk 2.0’s costs, site selection, and other issues.

He warned of action against those spreading false information on social media.

Nga reported that MyKiosk 1.0 had an 87.74% uptake (2,798 kiosks), while MyKiosk 2.0 had 65.44% (2,653 kiosks), with Johor hosting the most at 1,185 units.

He noted MyKiosk 2.0’s enhancements, including solar-powered batteries lasting 12 hours, compared to four hours for MyKiosk 1.0, due to strong demand for the earlier phase.
