Everyone is asking why it’s taking so long.

More than two months after unedited video recordings were handed to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), the whistleblower’s lawyer has issued a formal letter to Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki, seeking an update on the investigation.

“Two months and 10 days have passed since the said video recordings were submitted to the MACC, yet our client has not received any official feedback regarding the progress of the investigation, including the outcome of the forensic report, as repeatedly promised,” stated the letter, signed by lawyer Mahajoth Singh.

Azam had previously said on 29 April that the commission needed another week to complete the forensic analysis of the videos, which were submitted on 11 March.

“Everyone is asking why it’s taking so long. But we have to understand, this involves 10 videos, not just one. So we need to examine them very carefully,” he had said.

In the letter dated today, Mahajoth reminded Azam that investigators are legally obliged to update complainants, particularly whistleblowers, on the progress of cases.

“Unfortunately, in this case, our client has not been updated on any developments in the matter, especially given that our client is a whistleblower.

“Therefore, we request Azam to provide the latest status of the investigation into this case, as well as the outcome of the forensic report regarding the said video recordings,” he added, in the letter from Abd Halim Ushah & Associates.

It is understood that the letter has been delivered to Azam’s office at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya.
