MCA Youth chief Nicole Wong has been appointed as a board member of the Human Resources Development Fund (HRDF).

A check on HRDF’s website shows her listed as an independent member, among 18 board members.

According to a report by Sinchew Daily yesterday, Wong told the Chinese-language newspaper that she was appointed by Human Resources Minister M Saravanan for a two-year term beginning in April.

She reportedly said her responsibility is to propose training programmes for diverse groups of people and to relay relevant information.

She added that to meet the people’s needs, many plans and activities have been proposed and discussed to help reduce their burden in light of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The HRDF is an agency under the Human Resources Ministry.

Previously, the agency courted controversy after it appointed My Events International founder Shahul Hameed Dawood as its CEO, due to the latter’s role in organising an event featuring Muslim preacher Zakir Naik.

Saravanan had defended the appointment, saying that Shahul has the necessary credentials for the job and was unfairly linked to the 2016 event. – Malaysiakini
