MIC has closed up shop in Sabah, with its former chairman expected to announce a new party for the state’s 12,000 Indians this weekend.

V Jothi declined to reveal the name of the new outfit, saying only it will be a state-based party.

“After the May 9 general election, we couldn’t see MIC surviving, following the end of Barisan Nasional in Sabah.

“So, we decided to establish a Sabah-based platform, which will be government-friendly.”

Jothi is expected to make the announcement in Kota Kinabalu on Sunday.

He said a race-based party is needed to represent Sabah’s Indian community, whose issues require specific solutions.

BN has been replaced by Gabungan Bersatu Sabah (GBS) as the main opposition in the state.

GBS comprises Parti Bersatu Sabah, Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku, as well as several independent MPs and assemblymen who have quit Umno and the United Pasokmomogun Kadazandusun Murut Organisation. – TMI
