PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil said that his motion to remove Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun as the Dewan Rakyat Speaker was rejected.

Fahmi took to Twitter to say that his motion was rejected by Deputy Speaker Datuk Mohd Rashid Hasnon due to a technicality.

“When I filed in to remove the Speaker under Standing Order 4(3) and Article 57 (2)(c) of Federal Constitution, Rashid rejected it because ‘it was not previously informed under Standing Order 27,'” he said.

The Lembah Pantai member of parliament said he received the letter signed by Rashid on Aug 30, which states that based on this reason, he will not allow for the motion to be tabled in Parliament.

In the same tweet, Fahmi also shared the same motion filed by Amanah deputy president and Pulai MP Datuk Salahuddin Ayub under Standing Order 27, which was rejected by the deputy speaker.

He included the letter signed by Rashid to Salahuddin and explained that the motion submitted by the latter on Aug 16 was inaccurate, hence the rejection.

On Sept 2, Azhar denied claims he rejected 15 motions calling for his removal from office.

Azhar said his office had received the motions but left the matter to his deputy to avoid conflict of interest. – NST
