Muhyiddin to Defend Pagoh Seat, Contest Gambir State Seat

Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin will be defending his Pagoh parliamentary seat and also contesting in the Gambir state seat in Johor in the 14th General Election.

This was announced by party chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad at a political rally in Pagoh last night.

Muhyiddin won the Pagoh seat in the 2013 general election under a Barisan Nasional (BN) ticket with a 12,842-vote majority in a straight fight with PAS.

In Gambir, he is likely to meet PAS heavyweight Mahfodz Mohamed and a still unnamed BN candidate in a three-way contest.

Dr Mahathir also announced that PBBM will be contesting 10 parliamentary and 18 state seats in Johor.

Other candidates include academic Maszlee Malik, PPBM secretary-general Shahruddin Md Salleh and PPBM Youth chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman for the Simpang Renggam, Sri Gading and Muar parliamentary seats, respectively.

Johor PPBM secretary Osman Sapian was named as PH’s candidate for the Kemas state seat.

The 10 parliamentary seats PPBM will contest are Pagoh, Simpang Renggam, Sri Gading, Muar, Mersing, Tenggara, Kota Tinggi, Penggerang, Pontian and Tanjung Piai.

Among the state seats are Gambir, Benut, Larkin, Puteri Wangsa, Panti, Endau, Buluh Kasap, Tenang, Seri Medan, Semarang, Parit Raja, Macap, Kahang, Bukit Kepong, Bukit Pasit and Permas.

Before announcing the candidates, Mahathir said only “clean” candidates would be fielded, and not those facing bankruptcy or any other issues.
