The suspect who allegedly killed Siti Nur Surya Ismail has claimed that she was often mocked by the deceased over her looks and also family’s poverty-ridden background.
Police have also learnt that a vicious fight had taken place between both 19-year-old following an argument during which Siti Nur Surya was stabbed repeatedly, leaving her wrist severed and multiple injuries to her neck and body.
The gruesome murder which happened at the victim’s house at Kampung Lubuk Batu, Telemong on Nov 1 has not only become the talk of the town but gripped the entire nation due to the brutality of the crime.
Hulu Terengganu District Police Chief Deputy Superintendant Mohd Adli Mat Daut said the suspect had confessed to the murder and also shed some light on the motive behind the killing.
The teenager was detained after she turned up at the Telemong Police Station accompanied by her mother at 7.30am on Tuesday, a day after the murder.
Mohd Adil said the suspect told police that the deceased often mocked her over her looks and also ridiculed her over her family’s poor background.
“The suspect is from a poor family and her mother works as a cleaner while the father is a labourer.
“She claimed that this often led to the deceased ridiculing her family’s social standing. The suspect also claimed that the victim often mocked her for not having a pretty face…we believe the suspect held grudges against the victim,” he said when met at the Hulu Terengganu district police headquarters.
However, Mohd Ail said police were still investigating events leading up to the murder to tie up loose ends in the case.
He said initial investigations showed the victim’s left wrist was severed, while she also suffered stab wounds on her neck and other injuries.
“We believe that the suspect and the victim were involved in a brutal struggle prior to the murder as we found strands of hair which had been pulled out,” he said.
It was reported that Siti Nur Surya was found murdered in her house at Lubuk Batu, Telemong on Nov 1.
Her remains were found in the living room of her house by her sister when she returned from school. – NST
