Johor Ruler Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar has accepted the resignation of Datuk Osman Sapian as Mentri Besar.
In a statement, Johor State Secretary Datuk Azmi Rohani said His Majesty accepted the resignation letter at around 10am on Saturday (April 13).
“Sultan Ibrahim has also agreed to appoint a new Mentri Besar where the ceremony will take place at Balai Mengadap in Istana Bukit Serene tomorrow (April 14),” he added.
However, the statement did not mention the name of the new menteri besar.
The statement was also posted on Sultan Ibrahim’s official Facebook page.
It is learnt that Bukit Kepong assemblyman Dr Sahruddin Jamal, who is from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, is expected to be appointed as the 17th Johor Mentri Besar.
It was also reported that the Sultan has asked Osman to return to Istana Pasir Pelangi for an audience with him this evening.
Osman, who is also the Kempas assemblyman, said he had submitted a copy of his resignation letter to Sultan Ibrahim during an audience at the palace this morning but the ruler did not open it.
“I handed my resignation letter this morning after a long talk with Tuanku and he took it but did not open to see the contents.
“His Highness said he was taking it as a souvenir,” Osman told reporters at his service centre in Kempas.
He said he was informed by Sultan Ibrahim that they would meet again at 6.30pm but it was unclear what would be discussed at the meeting.
