A newborn baby boy who initially survived after being thrown from the second floor of a building here has died.
Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yussof said that the baby succumbed to his injuries on July 7, at around 4.53am.
“The post-mortem confirmed the cause of death as the hard impact on the victim’s head,” he said today.
On June 24, the victim was found seriously injured after he was flung out of the second floor of a building at Jalan Hentian 4, Hentian Bas Kajang.
The police remanded an Indonesian woman on June 25, believed to be the victim’s mother.
Restaurant patron Thalayan Paliandy, 33, who rescued the newborn expressed shock over the news.
“I visited the baby who was being warded at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) on Friday and was told that his condition remained unchanged.

“I only learned about his death from reporters who contacted me about it. I called the investigating officer who confirmed the baby’s death at 4.53am on Saturday.
“I am saddened with the news as I had hoped that the baby would get better after being warded there for 14 days,” he said today.
Meanwhile, Ahmad Dzaffir said the police was informed of the baby’s death by the doctor in charge.
“The baby succumbed to his injuries. His 22-year-old mother was charged at the court on July 6 under Section 307 and 317 of the Penal Code for attempted murder and child abandonment.

“We would refer the case to the deputy public prosecutor to have the charges amended to murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code,” he said.
It was reported that Thalayan was having his meal at a restaurant in the building when he discovered the injured baby after hearing a loud thud from the back alley.
He then rushed the victim, who sustained severe head and body injuries, to the nearby clinic with the help of passers-by. The baby was later sent to Kajang Hospital for treatment.
It was later learned that the baby’s mother was staying at a hostel in the same building and had just given birth.
She was detained by the police at the same hospital after receiving treatment there.
