A leader of a non-governmental organisation (NGO) has lodged a police report against PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim after the latter claimed to have a solid majority in Parliament.
Mohamad Riduwan Md Amin of Penggerak Komuniti Negara Kota Melaka said Anwar’s claims went against Article 43(4) of the Federal Constitution and could instigate political, economical and social instability in the country.
On Wednesday (Sept 23), Anwar claimed at a press conference to have secured a strong majority to form a new government, and that Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s government had collapsed.
Mohamad Riduwan, who is also the former Kota Melaka PKR division chief, said this preceded the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and added that this prompted him to file a police report on Friday (Sept 25) evening at the Melaka Tengah police station.
“Anwar’s statement can cause disharmony and political instability in the country. Along with several other people and NGO leaders, I went to the police station to file a report about the press conference,” said Mohamad Riduwan when contacted on Saturday (Sept 26).
Article 43(4) stipulates that if the Prime Minister ceases to command the confidence of the majority of the members of the Dewan Rakyat, then he has two choices.
The Prime Minister can either advise the King to dissolve Parliament and call a general election or he can tender the resignation of the entire Cabinet.
Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah is undergoing treatment at the National Heart Institute after complaining of being unwell on Tuesday (Sept 22).
Anwar was scheduled to meet with the King on Tuesday (Sept 22) but the appointment had to be cancelled. – The Star
