Police arrested a Nigerian man, believed to be mentally unsound, after he allegedly submerged a girl’s head in a swimming pool at an apartment in Puchong on Saturday.
Residents and security guards at the apartment were alerted to the incident when they heard the victim, a girl aged about eight to 10, screaming for help.
Security personnel immediately intervened and stopped the Nigerian man.
A video, believed to be a recording of the situation at the pool side after the incident, has been circulated on social media.
In the footage, the Nigerian, wearing only shorts, is heard shouting and mumbling while a security guard tries to control the situation.
The video then pans to a girl in pink swimming attire and black pants at the playground.
The man recording the video asks the girl if the Nigerian had choked her and she lifts her lower arm and put it to her neck, saying that “(he) did this”.
Subang Jaya district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohammad Azlin Sadari said police were notified by the security personnel of the man creating chaos at the apartment’s common area.
“A patrol car was deployed and the man in his 30s was arrested. He was taken to Puchong police station for questioning and later taken to Kuala Lumpur hospital on the same day,” Azlin said.
He added that no police report was lodged by the condominium management or the victim.
