Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad has resigned from her post effective today.
Noraini, who is also the Wanita Umno chief, said the move was to comply with the Umno supreme council decision on Aug 3.
“As the Wanita chief, I must adhere to the party’s decision and resign from my post as the Higher Education Minister effective immediately.
“The party’s decision will be implemented when Parliament is in session.

“I would like to thank everyone, especially the Higher Education Ministry staff, and all stakeholders related to the ministry who assisted me in carrying out my duties,” the Parit Sulong Member of Parliament said in a statement.
Noraini is the second Umno minister to resign after Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah who left his post as the Energy and Natural Resources Minister on Tuesday.
On Aug 3, Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced the party has withdrawn support for the Perikatan Nasional government as well as the leadership of Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
He claimed that he has already presented to Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah statutory declarations by Umno members of parliament who had retracted their support for Muhyiddin.
On July 25, Zahid said Umno has decided that all of its ministers, deputy ministers and heads of government-linked companies will relinquish their positions if the emergency ordinances are allowed to remain in effect beyond Aug 1. – NST
