A private nurse was charged in the Sungai Siput magistrates’ court today over the death of an eight-month-old baby boy last month.
T Rebekal, 30, nodded after the charge, framed under section 302 of the penal code for murder, was read out to her before magistrate Nurul Asyifa Redzuan.
However, no plea was recorded as the case is under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
The woman was charged with murdering J Melvin Jeshuran at a house in Kampung Muhibbah, Sungai Siput Utara, Perak, at about 6pm on July 24.
She faces the death sentence if found to be guilty of the offence.
Deputy public prosecutor RS Vitthiyeswary prosecuted, while lawyer K Nahtan, represented Rebekal.
The court set October 3 for mention.
It was reported that the victim was found unconscious and pronounced dead upon arrival at Sungai Siput Hospital.
A post-mortem on the victim’s body conducted at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital in Ipoh found injuries on his body believed to have been caused by blunt objects.
Perak police chief Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid had said that the victim was an only child and lived with his divorced mother.
