Parents of Murdered Malaysian Student on Way Home from Taiwan

The parents of Irene Chung, who was strangled to death in Taiwan on Oct 29, are on their way home to Malaysia Wednesday (Nov 4).

The family’s lawyer Yap Hoi Liong said the couple, who are bringing back Chung’s ashes, are flying off from Taipei on an 8.30am flight on Wednesday.

They will transit at KLIA for their connecting flight at 1.45pm to Kuching International Airport.

Thereafter, they will board another flight to Sibu Airport at 4.40pm with the flight expected to arrive at 5.20pm.

According to Yap, the couple will observe a 14-day quarantine.

“It is only after they have observed the quarantine period that the funeral service will take place,” he added.

The couple had flown to Taiwan on Oct 30 following news of her death.

Chung, 24, was a student of Chiang Jung Christian University in Tainan, Taiwan, and was found dead on Oct 29. An arrested suspect had confessed to the killing.

According to a CNA report, the suspect had admitted killing the woman by strangulation and disposing her body.

The woman was found missing on the evening of Oct 28.

CNA reported that the victim had been abducted and the next day the police arrested a suspect named Liang. – The Star
