More than 400 Parliament staff have been vaccinated in preparation for the Dewan Rakyat and Dewan Negara to convene, said Khairy Jamaluddin.

The National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme coordinating minister said those who were vaccinated today included parliament staff, cleaners and those who provide catering services at the parliament.

“This is to ensure when we will have a fully vaccinated Parliament when we convene,” Khairy said at a joint press conference with Health Minister Adham Baba in Putrajaya.

He said that all Members of Parliament have also been informed that their staff who will accompany them to Parliament will also be eligible for vaccination.

The move to inoculate Parliament staff comes following a decree by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong for the Parliament to convene as soon as possible.

Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah gave the decree after chairing a meeting of the Conference of Rulers on June 16.

The king said that convening Parliament would allow lawmakers to debate the Emergency Ordinances and National Recovery Plan to exit the Covid-19 pandemic. – TMI
