PAS is hoping Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor will appoint a representative from the party despite widespread objections.

Its deputy president Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah said he hoped Hajiji would allow PAS to render its services in the state assembly as the party had experiences in state matters.

He also criticised a statement by Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) president Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili on the need to study ground sentiments before allowing Pas to take part in the Sabah government.

“Based on our experience on administrating Kelantan for 30 years, I believe we can provide a meaningful contribution to Sabah.

“We disagree with those who said PAS is not fit to be part of the Sabah government. What Maximus had said cannot be accepted.

“PAS is a registered political party which has never caused any trouble since its inception,” said Mohd Amar, who is also Deputy Kelantan Menteri Besar, when met at his office today.

However, Mohd Amar admitted that PAS at times had “crossed the line” when raising certain views.

“But that does not mean that we are extremists, or (have) bad assemblymen.

“PAS’ contribution can be seen in Kelantan. Muslims and non-Muslims live in harmony and they are not being treated differently.

Other than Maximus, Deputy Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan was also against the inclusion of PAS in the Sabah state assembly, claiming such a suggestion would create disharmony. – NST
