Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS), part of the Perikatan Nasional-led federal government, will contest 15 seats in the snap state election.

PBS president Maximus Ongkili said the party would contest the Bengkoka, Matunggong, Tandek, Kadamaian, Tamparuli, Kiulu, Inanam, Api-Api, Tanjung Aru, Kepayan, Limbahau, Kundasang, Melalap, Telupid and Karamunting seats.

Umno had earlier today announced it would contest 31 seats, with PN stating it would contest 29 seats, PBRS five and MCA four. There are 73 seats in the Sabah state assembly.

Two of the seats that PBS is contesting overlap with other parties in Barisan Nasional. Umno is contesting Kepayan while MCA is contesting Karamunting.

In addition, three other seats that PBS plans to contest – Matunggong, Tandek and Kadamaian – are among the seats which another BN component, Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS), has said it will contest.

“The seats that we will contest are PN seats, and our members, especially at the grassroots level, trust that PBS will be stronger if we use our own flag and logo,” said Ongkili in a statement today.

“PBS’ election machinery has been prepared (for the elections) before the Sabah state assembly was dissolved (in July).

“We are very confident that with the hard work that all parties in PN and PBS’ members have put in for this election, we will win the election.
