Permatang Pasir rep charged with outraging modesty of a woman

Permatang Pasir state assemblyman Muhammad Faiz Fadzil has been charged with outraging the modesty of a woman near Subang three months ago.

Faiz who is also Amanah central committee member pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him at the Shah Alam magistrate’s court yesterday.

Deputy public prosecutor Nur Aishah Ahmad Zakiuddin who prosecuted the case, when contacted today, confirmed the matter.

The 44-year-old politician was accused of using criminal force with the intent to outrage the modesty of a 31-year-old woman between 9.45pm and 11.30pm on March 8.

The accused who is also a lawyer was accused of committing the offence in a car travelling from Sunway Pyramid shopping mall to Subang Jaya.

The offence falls under Section 354 of the Penal Code which provides for a jail term of up to 10 years, a fine and whipping upon conviction.

Aishah said Magistrate Mohamad Redza Azhar Rezali imposed RM10,000 bail against Faiz and also barred him from harassing prosecution witnesses.

The accused was represented by counsels Abdul Aziz Hamzah, Surya Putra Mohamed Taulan, Hairulallias Shaari and Ahmad Faiq Azizan.

The court set Aug 6 for mention.

On March 23, Faiz confirmed that he had been summoned by police to assist investigations into the allegations.

He also denied the allegations and pledged to take all necessary legal action to clear his name.

The police report was lodged by the shop assistant, alleging that Faiz had molested her during an outing.

The son of former Pas president Datuk Fadzil Noor was fielded as a candidate for the Permatang Pasir state seat in the 14th general election. – NST
