PKR said today it is disappointed with the appointment of former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to chair the government’s National Recovery Council.

Saifuddin said that while Muhyiddin was prime minister, he failed to steer the country out of the Covid-19 epidemic which has led to the people’s suffering and the economy performing poorly.

He also questioned what type of ideas Muhyiddin could possibly contribute, given that the policies implemented when he was the prime minister had clearly failed.

“Can he make decisions objectively or will he want to defend his legacy?

“Is Ismail not confident with his ministers?” Saifuddin asked.

The Kulim-Bandar Baharu MP also questioned Ismail about the appointment which he said may endanger the latter’s administration.

He said this appointment will now add another layer of “unreasonable bureaucracy” in an already packed government.

He added that Muhyiddin’s appointment is for Ismail’s political survival at the cost of the people.

“Until when do the people and the country need to be victims of political interests?” he asked.

Earlier today, chief secretary Mohd Zuki Ali announced that Muhyiddin has been appointed chairman of the National Recovery Council with ministerial status.

The decision was made at a cabinet meeting on September 1 and the Yang di-Pertuan Agong has been informed of the appointment.
