Perikatan Nasional (PN) component members have been reminded to prioritise cooperation to ensure its victory in the upcoming Sabah state election.
Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim said the component party leadership in Sabah must utilise the proper channels in communicating with each other and ensure that decisions on candidates for the snap polls are made through consensus.
“Sabah Umno has the power to discuss this matter (state election) and its chairman, Datuk Seri Bung Mokhtar Radin, also has the autonomy to determine the candidate.
“They (Bersatu) can discuss (candidate selection) at the Sabah level. If you want to win (in the state election), don’t be divided. If it’s discussed properly, there should be no problem.
“If you want to lose, then fight among yourselves. However, I believe Sabah Umno will determine its direction, and hopefully, it will contest to win,” Shahidan told Berita Harian, today.
He was commenting on a statement by Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) Sabah chief, Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, who stressed that the party is seeking to contest 45 seats in the upcoming state election.
Shahidan, who is also the PN Backbenchers Club (PNBBC) chairman, said the coalition’s Members of Parliament back Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as Prime Minister.
“The federal government today continues with the support of Members of Parliament. There is no problem, the support of the Members of Parliament would be there until the general election,” he said. – NST
