Perikatan Nasional (PN) component parties have rubbished opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim’s claims that he has the majority to form a government as they affirmed their support for Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.
In a joint statement, the secretaries-general of Barisan Nasional (BN), Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), Parti Islam Semalaysia (PAS), Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) and Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku Rakyat Sabah (STAR) reiterated their support for Muhyiddin’s leadership.
“Therefore, the parties in the Perikatan Nasional coalition would like to dispel claims from PKR president Anwar Ibrahim that he has the so-called majority to form a government.
“His statement is just a repetition of the cheap publicity he has pulled off several times before,” they said in the statement.
They described the latest move by the Port Dickson MP as a reflection of his “greed” and “craze for power” and that it only goes to show he cares little about political stability and the people’s well-being, which has been affected by the challenging economic conditions due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“We are confident that the people will rise to reject such politics and together we will support the Perikatan Nasional government led by Muhyiddin who is always caring for the people’s well-being,” they said.
The statement was signed by Annuar Musa of BN, Hamzah Zainuddin of Bersatu and Takiyuddin Hassan of PAS.
Other signatories include Alexander Nanta Linggi of GPS and Guan Dee Kohoi of STAR.
Anwar declared today that the PN government led by Muhyiddin has fallen.
“I have a strong, formidable and convincing majority to form the government.
“I have support that is convincing from the parliamentarians, to present to the Agong. The majority support is from Malay-Muslim parliamentarians.
“With the firm majority…Muhyiddin’s government has fallen,” he said at a press conference today. – TMI
