Police have opened investigations papers on Pasir Puteh MP Nik Muhammad Zawawi Salleh’s remarks that the Bible has been distorted.
Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador said several police reports have been lodged against the PAS lawmaker.
“We are also waiting for a report from the Malaysia Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) on the medium that was used to make a video (of him speaking) viral,” he told a press conference in Cheras today.
The report from MCMC is the last piece of information police are waiting for, after which the investigation papers will be complete for submission to the Attorney-General’s Chambers, Hamid said.
Zawawi was speaking in Parliament on August 26 about amendments to the law to increase the penalties for drink-driving, when he said that all religions prohibited alcohol consumption and that the Bible had been “distorted” to allow it.

Among those who have lodged police reports against him in Kuching are three Sarawak DAP leaders – Stampin MP Julian Tan, Sarawak DAP chairman aide Brolin Nicholson, and DAP Socialist Youth member Anthony Chin.
The Borneo Post reported, citing state Criminal Investigation Department chief SAC Denis Leong, that 16 police reports against Zawawi have been lodged in Sarawak alone. – TMI
