DAP MPs Ramkarpal Singh and RSN Rayer will represent four party members, including two assemblymen who were recently detained over their alleged links to the now-defunct Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).

G Saminathan and P Gunasekaran, who are assemblymen in Melaka and Negeri Sembilan respectively, and two other DAP members, were detained alongside a dozen people last week under the Special Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012, or Sosma.

“We will challenge their detention under Sosma and their right to post bail, since the act doesn’t permit bail,” Ramkarpal told reporters outside the Bukit Aman police headquarters today after visiting the detainees.

Ramkarpal, the Bukit Gelugor MP, said there have been too many speculations surrounding the allegations of their involvement in LTTE, the Sri Lanka rebel group which fought a civil war against Colombo for a separate Tamil homeland.

A total of 12 people have been arrested since last week as police launched a crackdown on supporters of LTTE, who are accused of trying to revive the group. – FMT
